Catching Catharsius

Traditional insect flight intercept traps don’t catch large dung beetles, such as Sabah’s largest dung beetles, Catharsius dayacus and C. renaudpauliana, but bat harp traps work a treat! Bat PhD students Dave and Tor have been recording numbers of Catharsius in their harp traps every night across the SAFE land use gradient. Check out the amazing GIF of Catharsius in flight on Dave’s twitter .
