Our workshop on the Benefits of Riparian Buffers in Sabah held in June in Kota Kinablau was a great success. We co-hosted it with the Sabah government agencies, the Department for Irrigation and Drainage (DID) and the Environmental Protection Department (EPD). The workshop was opened by the Assistant Minister for Toursism, Culture and Environment, and was attended by around 50 stakeholders from government, NGOs, civil bodies, industry, and universities.
The workshop used break-out groups to explore options for the effective design of riparian buffers in Sabah, and began the process of building a decision tree to help guide appropriate widths for buffers.
